PM Modi looks to ‘strengthen spirit of cooperation’ on 3-nation Europe trip | India News

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will have 25 engagements in his three-day trip to Germany, Denmark and France, beginning May 2.
His first stop will be Berlin, where he will meet with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
“My visit to Berlin will be an opportunity to hold detailed bilateral discussions with Chancellor Scholz, whom I met at G20 last year in his previous capacity as Vice-Chancellor and Finance Minister. We will co-chair the 6th India-Germany Inter-Governmental Consultations (IGC), a unique biennial format which India conducts only with Germany,” the Prime Minister said in his departure statement.
On May 2, PM Modi will be addressing the Indian community in Berlin and address the diaspora.
From Berlin, Modi will travel to Copenhagen where he will meet with Danish Prime Minister Frederiksen, “which will provide an opportunity to review the progress in our unique ‘Green Strategic Partnership,” according to the departure statement.
Modi will also attend the 2nd India-Nordic Summit along with Prime Ministers of Denmark, Iceland, Finland, Sweden and Norway to take stock of cooperation since the first such summit in 2018.
A diaspora event has been planned for Copenhagen as well, where about 1500 people are expected to attend on May 3.
During his brief stopover in Paris, Modi will hold talks with French President Emmanuel Macron, who was re-elected to the top post in a fiercely-fought presidential election.
“President Macron and I will share assessments on various regional and global issues and will take stock of ongoing bilateral cooperation,” the PM’s statement read.
“Through my engagements, I intend to strengthen the spirit of cooperation with our European partners, who are important companions in India’s quest for peace and prosperity,” it further said.
The visit by Prime Minister Modi is his first in 2022 and also comes at a very crucial juncture amid the Ukraine crisis refusing to die down.
