‘Whom would you blame now?’ Rahul targets PM Modi over power crisis | India News

NEW DELHI: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi took a sharp dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the current power crisis in India and asked: “Whom would you blame for your failure: Nehru, states of the people?”
“The prime minister’s promises and intentions have always been disconnected. Modi ji, who will you blame for your failure in this power crisis? Nehru ji or states or people?” Rahul asked in a tweet in Hindi.

Along with his tweet, Rahul tagged a video showing past speeches of Prime Minister Modi promising in 2015 to make electricity available 24 hours across the country and claiming in 2017 that one no longer heard headlines of power crisis or coal crisis.
The nearly one-minute video highlights reports of the current power crisis with a businessman saying he can’t even sleep after a day’s labour.
Several states in India have been reeling from power outages due to the coal crisis in the country.
Coal India Limited has reported an increase of 27.2 per cent in its output in April 2022, as compared to the year-ago period, the ministry of coal on Friday.
The demand for power has risen in April due to severe heatwave in several parts of the country. The problem has been accentuated by a steep rise in prices of imported coal due to the Russia-Ukraine conflict and some power plants not operating to their full capacity.
