Maruti Suzuki is all set to introduce a mid-life facelift for the second-gen Ertiga in India on April 15, with the manufacturer taking pre-bookings for the updated MPV at a token amount of Rs 11,000 since last week. In an exclusive interaction with Shashank Srivastava, Executive Director – Marketing & Sales, Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL), we have learned that the 2022 Maruti Suzuki Ertiga has already received over 6,000 bookings in a matter of just 6 days.
Shashank told us that Ertiga and XL6 presently account to around 13,000 – 14,000 units out of the total sales of the brand each month, out of which the Ertiga manages to sell about 10,000 units. The Ertiga has been one of the highest-selling MPVs in the Indian market since its arrival, and with the introduction of the new model, Maruti Suzuki expects numbers to grow further in a segment that now consists of the likes of Mahindra Marazzo, Kia Carens, as well as Ertiga’s very own six-seat sibling – the XL6, which is also set to receive a mid-life refresh soon.
Powering the 2022 Maruti Suzuki Ertiga facelift will be a new 1.5-litre four-cylinder Dual VVT engine with mild hybrid tech. This engine is expected to produce the same 105 PS power and 138 Nm torque, mated to a 5-speed manual transmission as standard. However, the 4-speed AT gearbox that was offered with the pre-facelift version, will now be replaced with a new 6-speed torque converter automatic with paddle shifters.
Moreover, Shashank also revealed to us that only about 8% of sales were for the automatic version of the pre-facelift Ertiga, however, with the introduction of the new 6-speed AT gearbox with paddle shifters, he expects this number to stretch up to 15%. Other new features will likely include the latest version of Maruti Suzuki’s SmartPlay infotainment system consisting of a 7.0-inch touchscreen unit with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as a leather-wrapped flat-bottom steering wheel.
New safety tech could include 6 airbags on the top-end variants, along with a 360-degree view camera. In terms of design, the overall silhouette of the car will remain unchanged. However, the 2022 Ertiga will come equipped with a brand new radiator grille along with a new set of alloy wheels. The front and rear bumpers could also slightly be reworked. Pricing for the Ertiga facelift is expected to start from around Rs 8.4 lakh (ex-showroom).
