PATIALA: Two days after the clash between two groups, the police in Patiala claimed to have arrested six more people, including key accused Barjinder Singh Parwana and an accomplice of controversial Shiv Sena leader Harish Singla.
The police said that CCTV cameras and all the videos are being thoroughly probed and the accused are being nabbed accordingly.
The police have identified the six arrested accused as Barjinder Singh Parwana of Rajpura, Shankar Bhardaj of Patiala, who is also district president Shiv Sena (Bal-Thackarey), Ashwinin Kumar alias Gaggi Pandit of Bahadurgarh, who was giving provocative speeches, accused Shiv of a village in Fatehgarh Sahib, accused Davinder Singh of Jind, Haryana, and accused Rajinder Singh of Samana in Patiala district.
Notably, three accused have already been arrested by the police till Saturday, including Shiv Sena leader Harish Singla who is facing two days police remand.
Singla was also assaulted by Hindu outfits during a meeting on Friday evening at Kali Devi temple in Patiala as the Hindu organsiations blamed him responsible for creating a trouble between two communities that also led to clash near Kali Devi temple.
Ten days before clash in Patiala, Shiv Sena Bal-Thackarey Punjab president Yogesh Sharma wrote to Patiala SSP and warned him of unwanted situation that may arise over the protest march call given by Harish Singla in his own capacity. In the letter Sharma also disassociated the party from Singla’s decision to take out protest.
Patiala IG Mukhwinder Singh Chinna said, “Patiala SSP Deepak Pareek has constituted more than 20 teams under supervision of SPs and DSPs to arrest all the accused who perpetuated violence on Friday in Patiala. We have arrest the key accused Barjinder Singh Parwana from Mohali airport and soon his police remand will also be obtained as he is being produced before the magistrate. Interrogation of already arrested accused is underway and further probe and arrests are also being carried out. The conspiracy angle is also being probed.”
Besides, the arrest of three Sikh radicals who were involved in violence, police have arrested the accused Gaggi Pandit who had posted hate speech on social media.
Notably, the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC) had condemned Patiala police for registering a case against Barjinder Singh Parwana who himself had submitted memorandum to Patiala police four days before the clash incident and urged police to take preventive action to avoid any conflict.
The police on Sunday said they are are also cracking down on the social media users who are actively participating in promoting the provocative materials on social media.
Patiala deputy commissioner has also appealed the masses to avoid circulating the provocative or rumours at social media.
