PATNA: Altogether 219 poultry birds and ducks were culled within 1km radius in Chhapkahi village located in Sadar police station area of Bihar‘s Supaul district on Thursday.
The animal husbandry department issued the culling order of poultry birds after the samples of dead birds collected from the area were tested positive of avian flu (H5N1).
Supaul DM Kaushal Kumar confirmed the culling of the birds as per the SOP.
He said that the samples sent to National Institute of High Security Animal Diseases (NIHSAD), Bhopal, on March 30, came positive on Wednesday evening, following which the culling was done.
The dead birds were buried by the rapid response team. Besides, the area where the culling was conducted have been sanitised by the officials.
