BENGALURU: Like Wipro, Infosys too has fired employees in recent months for moonlighting. “If we have found employees doing work in two different companies, where there are confidentiality issues, we have let them go in the last 12 months,” CEO Salil Parekh said on Thursday. He did not mention a figure.
Wipro chairman Rishad Premji had said a few weeks ago that the company fired 300 employees for moonlighting.
However, Infosys is planning to introduce a policy for allowing employees to take up external gigs, Parekh said. He added that Infosys has set up a platform called Accelerate where employees can look at internal gig work and projects outside. Infosys had told TOIthat Accelerate and Infosys Gig Marketplace enable managers to listshort-duration gig work. Internal talent across the organisation can pick up these jobs for execution.
“In an average quarter, 4,000 people apply for these jobs, out of which 600 are selected. We support the aspirations of our employees tolearn beyond work. We are developing more comprehensive policies while ensuring contractual confidentiality commitments are fully respected. However, we do not support dual employment,” Parekh said.
Infosys added over 10,032 employees in the second quarter, taking the total employee strength to 3. 4 lakh. “The company has hired 40,000 freshers in the first half of the financial year. There is no delay in onboarding freshers,” CFO Nilanjan Roy said. Voluntary attrition has gone down to 27. 1% in the September quarter, from 28. 4% in the preceding one.
