LUCKNOW: The Ram temple issue has outlived its “vote potential” and the country now looks to emerge from the shadow of the past and “celebrate its religious diversity”, VHP declared on Sunday while countering the “narrative” that PM Modi’s pre-Diwali Ayodhya visit was part of a Hindutva pitch ahead of elections in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh.
VHP international working president Alok Kumar told TOI there was a time when certain political forces stood against the idea of Ram janmabhoomi. “All that has now faded away. We think the Ram temple issue should be delinked from politics. It should be a temple of the whole country,” he said.
The VHP chief took a swipe at those employing the “Hindutva narrative” as a “political instrument”, saying it was about time everyone acknowledged that “Hindus take part in their religious festivals just like Muslims do on Eid and Buddhists celebrate Buddha Jayanti“.
