Tadiandamol Trek

A trail leading you to the highest peak of Kodagu and the third-highest peak of Karnataka. Amidst the lush greens and jaw-dropping views at every turn, Tadiandamol Trek is one of the most famous treks of southern India. Beneath the misty clouds that float above the evergreen forests, a life enriched with flora and fauna unfolds itself. The trek to the 5700 ft high peak is a compelling adventure that gets to your nerves. The 15 km long trek begins from Kakkabe strolling through Nalknad Palace to Boulder point, which finally ends at the peak of Tadiandamol. The trek however can be exhausting due to the sloppy terrains during the monsoons. But a fit beginner can surely complete the trek with some expertise. 

As camping isn’t allowed, one needs to reach their homestays before the sunsets. As it’s a forest trail one must be well acquainted with food. You can easily refill your water bottles from the following streams.

Abbey Falls

Prominently known as Abbi Falls, this imperial 70ft fall is located near the Madikeri of the Western Ghats of Coorg. The falls which are not less than a scintillating sight to gaze at during monsoon, are an amalgamation of streams that coalesce to form the fall meets in River Kaveri. The visitors are not allowed to swim in the water. However, the panoramic view of the falls can be sighted from the hanging bridge opposite to the falls. The essence of coffee from the plantations can be felt within the misty breeze around the falls. The best time to visit Abbey Falls is during Monsoon. One can reach there by private vehicle or by bus. The timings of Abbey falls are 9 AM-5 PM.

Omkareshwara Temple

A historical temple dedicated to Lord Shiva  historical temple dedicated to Lord Shiva was built in 1820 by King Lingarajendra is situated at a distance of 1Km from Madikeri region. A structure with the essence of Islamic and Gothic architecture stands calm amongst the chaotic city. The temple has a Linga installed which is said to have been brought from the sacred land of Kashi. The temple opens from 6:30AM to12 Noon and then from 5PM-8PM. You stay for the pooja and have some time in solitude by the water tank installed in the temple. The best way to travel here is by road as there are no railway stations in Kodagu district. You can easily commute by local transport or buses from cities nearby.

Brahmagiri Wildlife Sanctuary

The 181 square km widespread sanctuary comprising evergreen forests, diverse species from the wild and exotic plantations of coffee, pepper and caradum is a must visit sight during your stay in Coorg.

While the Brahmagiri Wildlife Sanctuary offers a gateway to the blissful paradise of nature. The Iruppu falls arising from Lakshmana Tirtha River which is said to be created by the arrow shot by Lakshman during their exile in Ramayana, is just another example of the grand cascade that makes it an alluring experience . The Brahmagiri range is home to Pakshipathalam caves that had their historical significance in the ancient times. The best time to visit is usually the monsoon and travelling via road is suggested.

Honnamana Kere Lake

Located in Daddamalte region of Coorg and popular as a picnic spot amongst people, Honnamana Lake is the largest lake in Coorg. Encircled with two hills, Gavi Betta and Mori Betta and lush greens,  the Lake marks itself as a perfect spot to spend a good time. The picturesque views and the serene calm that can be felt around is unparalleled. Named after Goddess Honnamana, locals usually visit the temple to seek blessings during Gauri Pooja due to the religious importance the place holds. The Lake can be visited anytime of the day and the best way to reach here is via road.
