NEW DELHI: Union home minister Amit Shah on Sunday launched the Hindi version of MBBS course books in Bhopal.
Madhya Pradesh has thus become the first state to start MBBS course in Hindi.
Initially, three subjects have been selected to be studied in Hindi- Anatomy, Physiology and Biochemistry.
Chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and state medical education minister Vishwas Sarang were also present at the event.
“Through the new National Education Policy, PM Modi has given more emphasis to the mother language of students. This is a historic decision. BJP’s Shivraj Singh Chouhan govt, by starting medical education in Hindi for the first time in the country, has fulfilled PM Modi’s wish,” Shah said.
A team of 97 experts have been working on the preparation of books for the last 232 days at Gandhi Medical College, Bhopal, translating the books from English to Hindi.

Only days back, the Committee of Parliament on Official Language, headed by Shah, had recommended that the medium of instruction in technical and non-technical higher education institutes such as IITs in Hindi-speaking states should be Hindi. Respective local language is to be given precedence in other parts of India, it had said, adding the use of English should be made optional.
