MEERUT: A 19-year-old BTech student was repeatedly stabbed and left to die inside the premises of a top engineering college in Meerut following violent clashes between two groups of students on Wednesday. Nikhil Tomar, who was bleeding profusely, was later taken to a hospital where doctors pronounced him “brought dead”.
Media coordinator of Meerut Institute of Engineering and Technology Ajay Chaudhary said, “The incident took place in the morning when two groups of students, all from BTech section, started attacking each other. One of the accused, Abhishek Sharma, seemed to have pulled out a sharp-edged object and stabbed Nikhil repeatedly. He was accompanied by four others. The group was overpowered by security staff when they tried to flee.”
Chaudhary added that the college has initiated proceedings to identify and rusticate the students involved in the “murder”. Superintendent of Police (rural) Keshav Kumar said, “We have detained five students for questioning. An FIR has been filed.” The dead student’s uncle said, “Nikhil had informed us of a minor scuffle with some bullies in his college a day earlier. But the matter was resolved. We never thought things would take such an ugly turn.”
