MiG 29K fighter jet crashes off Goa coast, pilot safe | Goa News

PANAJI: The Indian Navy lost yet another of its frontline fighter jets on Wednesday when a MiG 29K crashed over the sea on a routine sortie off Goa coast after taking off from the INS Hansa naval base.
The pilot of the aircraft ejected safely and was rescued by naval personnel in a swift rescue operation.

The Indian Navy has ordered a Board of Inquiry (BoI) to investigate the cause of the incident.
“A MiG 29K on a routine sortie over sea off Goa developed a technical malfunction while returning to base. The pilot ejected safely and has been recovered in a swift search and rescue operation,” said the Indian Navy in a brief statement.
The pilot, who has not been identified, is reported to be in stable condition and is under medical observation.
The ill-fated aircraft took off from INS Hansa for operations out at sea when the pilot found the aircraft behaving in an erratic manner. The pilot attempted to regain control of the naval jet but had to eject after it was deemed that aircraft would not be in a condition to return for a safe landing.
A MiG 29KUB trainer aircraft operating from the aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya at the Arabian Sea had met with an accident on November 26, 2020 in which the qualified flying instructor Nishant Singh lost his life. A MiG 29K crashed on February 23, 2020 out at sea and yet another MiG 29K crashed in November 2019 at Verna after hitting a flock of birds.
